“Crow War Pony-1”. The first art of my series The War Pony Project. It took me over a year of making contacts and having conversations with Native Americans on different reservations of the West before I finally found and spoke with Kennard Real Bird on the Crow Reservation. I told him of my vision of creating this art to honor the Horse Nation and the relationships that were formed between the Warriors and the War Ponies. Ken listened, paused and the said Yep, I can help you. Wow! I was on my way. Since then I’ve worked with Ken on three different shoots. We were both recognized at the opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian’s show “A Song for the Horse Nation.” “Crow War Pony-1” was selected to be the icon, the image to promote the show. “Crow War Pony-1” is now in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian.
